What is Vins de Pays

Official Explanation

In terms of European law, (EEC regulation no 1493/1999 dated 17th May 1999), a geographical indication may be used under certain conditions to designate a table wine. In France the wines with geographical indication are called Vins de Pays. Whilst a table wine may be produced from a blend of wines from a number of different regions, a Vin de Pays wine can only come from one region alone. French legislation is very strict in that respect and rules governing the means of production, the procedures for accreditation, laboratory analysis and tasting controls are in place.
